Discovery Nature Camp
Providing children with an amazing outdoor experience - MRT's Discovery Nature Camp.
Discovery Nature Camp, designed for children 8 - 12 years old, provides an entertaining and enriching learning experience with a strong science and environmental focus. Campers will discover the wonders of nature with the aid of scientific tools, hands-on activities, crafts and games. They will also have the opportunity to interact with live animals (well supervised). Guest speakers are invited to each session to deliver engaging, entertaining and educational talks. Each session will be centered around a different theme and include a guided hike and related craft.
Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods said, "Unlike television, nature does not steal time - it amplifies it. Nature inspires creativity in a child by demanding visualization and the full use of senses. Given a chance, a child will bring the confusion of the world to the woods, wash it in the creek, turn it over to see what lives on the unseen side of that confusion. In nature, a child finds freedom, fantasy and privacy; a place distant from the adult world - a separate peace."
Three sessions will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each summer.
